In wireless data networks, Radio Resource Management (RRM) strategies are an important issue for supporting Quality of Service (QoS). This paper evaluates the performance of two innovative scheduling disciplines that allow the subscribers to transmit data with guaranteed QoS in a packet switched radio network based on the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). In particular, the analysed strategies are: Modified Advance-Time (MAT) and Virtual Clock (VC). Both scheduling algorithms allow the GPRS system to achieve a high usage of the available radio resources while guaranteeing the quality of service. Realistic traffic models for Web browsing, e-mail, fleet management and Short Message Service are assumed.
