This paper proposes an improved scheduling algorithm that optimizes the allocation of the real-time services and elastic flows in EPON by spreading the real-time service periods lowering the delay and thus fulfilling the QoS requirements. Among the different PON technologies the Ethernet-PON (EPON) is one of the most promising alternatives to satisfy operator and user needs, due to its cost, flexibility and interoperability with other technologies. The IEEE Std. 802.3ah introduces the concept of EPON with a nominal bit rate of 1 Gbps and the IEEE Std. 802.3av extends EPONs operation to 10 Gbps (10GEPON), the major difference compared to EPON is the physical layer.
