Executive Summary

Protecting the data on tape data storage is a thing of the past. Today, most of the small and medium-sized companies are looking for better, more cost-effective ways to store, backup, and safeguard their critical data. It has also been noticed that small and medium-sized companies need this system dreadfully as they are the one who face the daunting task of managing the ever-increasing amount of data. Customers these days like to make use of disk products to meet their backup and recovery requirements rather than relying on age old method of using tape as a medium for data protection, which often fall short in terms of recovery objectives. This is why companies these days like to enjoy benefits of a Disk-To-Disk-To Tape (D2D2T) strategy. In addition, D2D products now feature data deduplication technology, which reduces overall solution costs, which is also the basis of this paper. This paper also proposes HP's D2D2500 and D2D4000 which are fully integrated appliances with a VTL interface with built-in dynamic deduplication. These disk-based data protection solutions are designed to integrate into existing environments and work with existing backup software applications to automate daily backup of multiple servers or host systems. As small and medium-sized businesses are continually looking for better, more cost-effective ways to store, backup, and safeguard their critical data; D2D solutions are designed to meet their increasing requirement.
