Executive Summary

It is well known that BGP convergence can cause widespread temporary losses of connectivity resulting from inconsistent routing state. In this paper, the authors present Anomaly-Cognizant Forwarding (ACF) - a novel technique for protecting end-to-end packet delivery during periods of convergence. The preliminary evaluation demonstrates that ACF succeeds in eliminating nearly all transient disconnection after a link failure without the use of precomputed backup routes or altering the dynamics of BGP. It is widely known that BGP, the core Internet interdomain routing protocol, is susceptible to temporary connectivity failures during periods of convergence
