With growing threats to industrial, financial and personal information security, there has been an influx of regulation and legislation designed to improve the way that institutions handle sensitive data. This is especially true in areas that are directly related to information privacy and security: the Payment Card Industry (PCI); the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX); the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA); the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA); and the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA). To satisfy these new regulations, companies are required to deploy systems, policies, and programs that enforce information security, information control, and information monitoring and reporting capabilities for corporate assets.
