Server virtualisation has made giant strides over the past decade. Along with it, networked storage is being deployed by a growing number of businesses interested in consolidation, reduced costs and improved flexibility in applications from databases to email. Research from this ESG Lab report indicates that IT managers looking to reap the benefits of server and storage consolidation are concerned about performance. Server, storage, and network administrators are looking for answers to a number of questions: - Can we meet performance service level agreements for a mix of business-critical applications? - Does the storage system have the horsepower to serve mixed real-world applications? - Can the storage system scale to accommodate future growth and consolidation? This report presents the results of a mixed workload performance benchmark test designed to assess the real-world performance capabilities of an IBM Storwize V7000 storage system and IBM x3850 X5 servers in a VMware-enabled virtual server environment.
