Executive Summary

Nowadays, when a health system uses medical imaging or Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) medicine and clinical information services such as X-ray, laboratory work, and Medical Record System (MRS) are delivered over wireless networks. A system with wireless enabled mobile carts is very easy to setup and running at the bedside. However, there are many significant issues of concern. The major concern for the Wireless LANs networking design is traffic analysis. Recently, characteristic of HTTP, FTP, SMTP, VoIP and other Internet applications in the intra-domain network are being widely studied. At this time, however, characteristics of PACS traffic in the IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) are rarely studied.
