Executive Summary

The authors study some coding schemes using Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes. They specifically concentrate on improved decoding methods and rate-compatible LDPC codes. One of the most important problems in LDPC coding is the analysis and design of finite-length codes. Although there has been some results on finite-length analysis of LDPC codes over the Binary Erasure Channel (BEC), design of good finite-length LDPC codes is still a research problem. An alternative way to compensate for this problem is to improve the decoding of these codes.
