Executive Summary

Nowadays, more and more hospitals and healthcare facilities are considering the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to improve the ability to accurately identify and track patients, hospital staff, medical equipment, patient samples, and blood products. A number of case studies have demonstrated that RFID technology not only makes treatment safer and more efficient, but also has the side benefits of preventing identity theft and reducing paper work to cut costs. In addition to implementations in hospitals, RFID technology can be used in incidents with mass casualties to improve the effectiveness of first responders doing triage and treatment and transporting patients to nearby hospitals.
