Executive Summary

HP Networking is a leading provider of converged infrastructure solutions, including networking. With its recently enhanced core and data center portfolio, HP has provided another proof point of its commitment to offering enterprise-class networking solutions. By bringing this new broader networking portfolio to market through HP's direct and indirect sales channels and combining it with HP service offerings, HP Networking has further strengthened its position as a global contender and provider to enterprises and major verticals.

In September 2010, IDC published a white paper containing the results of a study of twelve medium- and large-sized customers. This study examined the return on investment (ROI) associated with implementing an HP Networking solution. The study found that the medium- to large-sized organizations surveyed were able to achieve a 466% ROI with a payback on their initial investment in just 8.4 months. When compared with companies without HP Networking solutions, who incurred an average annual cost per user of $758, customers who deployed HP Networking solutions achieved an average annual cost per user of only $257. This represented an average cost savings of 66% per user per year.

As one interviewee succinctly stated: "We now have a more stable environment, newer technology, less frequent equipment failures, higher availability, better ease of use, and reduced complexity, and HP was the lowest-cost solution when we purchased our equipment."

IDC believes that with the lifetime cost of ownership advantages of HP Networking, companies will be able to achieve investment protection and will be better able to grow their network as their needs change.
