Executive Summary

Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork (MANET) is regarded as an autonomous system of mobile nodes connected via wireless links. In this paper, various routing protocols associated with MANET networks are reviewed via their performance using NS2 Network Simulator. For relatively small networks flat routing protocols may be sufficient. But in case of larger networks, there is a requirement of either Hierarchical or Geographic routing protocols. There is no single protocol that fits all networks perfectly. In order to choose network protocol various network characteristics are to be taken care of like density, size and mobility of the nodes. MANET doesn't require any fixed infrastructure so that it is regarded as the most efficient choice to connect devices quickly and spontaneously.
