One of the main goals of sensor networks is to provide accurate information about a sensing field for an extended period of time. The emergence of sensor networks as one of the dominant technology trends in the coming decades has posed numerous unique challenges to researchers. Because sensor networks may interact with sensitive data and/or operate in hostile unattended environments, it is imperative that these security concerns be addressed from the beginning of the system design. These networks are likely to be composed of hundreds, and potentially thousands of tiny sensor nodes, functioning autonomously, and in many cases.
