This paper was done as part of the author's PhD qualifier exam. The author's qualifier exam problem was to perform an in depth study of separation logic. In this paper, he surveys two variants of separation and then shows how they can apply to solve the isolation problem for mashups. He rigorously defines the inter-component isolation property for basic a class of mashups, called variable separated mashups. The author then derives two procedures for verifying isolation of variable separated mashups using separation logic and its variants. Finally, he provides a rigorous proof of correctness for both the procedures.
