SME's Fiscal Compliance Costs as a Matter of Common Concern

Fiscal legislation is in many cases very complex, being designed in a way that allows its application to businesses of all sizes and to all types of economic transactions, even for operations that are only performed by large corporations. For this reason compliance with tax rules can be challenging and expensive for the economic agents, especially for SMEs. In this paper, based on the literature in the field, the authors intend to acknowledge the SMEs about the tax compliance costs in order to minimize it. The main objective of this study is to improve the concept of "Tax compliance cost" in order to provide a theoretical tool for SMEs to calculate the target maximizing function for its net income.
