In practice, that has played out in ways few would have imagined only a few years ago. As consumers have leveraged social media to make their voices heard, certain boundary lines have been redrawn, and conventions either challenged or cast aside voluntarily. Indeed, social media is a rapidly growing, multiplatform, open-access, powerful, influential communication phenomenon that demands rethinking standard operating procedure.
