A spreadsheet-based preliminary design and noise consideration system is presented in this paper. The system is developed using Microsoft Excel. It allows users to optimize the various parameters of magnetic field sensor designs with the goal of SQUID-like sensitivity. Users can input design parameters including materials, junction areas, and magnetic layer thicknesses, and various noise sources including Johnson noise, shot noise, 1/f noise, and thermal magnetic noise that must be considered when building a Magnetic Tunnel Junction (MTJ) magnetic field sensor are calculated and displayed immediately. Graphs predicting the expected sensitivities, supply voltage, junction resistance, operating current and power of the finished sensor are shown in the implement mode and fine adjustments of design parameters are enabled using the scrollbars provided.
