Executive Summary

In this paper, the authors focus on three approaches for VNT configuration within CO Ethernet over a WSON network controlled by a GMPLS control plane: static, semi-dynamic and dynamic. They compared the connection blocking probability and the setup delay in these three scenarios to evaluate the network performance. To cope with the data traffic growth and demand for high capacity networks, as a solution for next generation networks, a dual-layer infrastructure which integrates flexible Connection-Oriented (CO) Ethernet technologies (i.e., PBB-TE or MPLS-TP) and the huge transport capacity provided by the Wavelength Switched Optical Networks (WSON) can be deployed.
