When a packet is sent through wireless network it can be lost due to either environmental noise or due to congestion in the network. Traditional TCP protocols do not perform well in the wireless network because they were designed for wired networks with the assumption that the transmission medium is quite reliable. This often results in TCP's failure in distinguishing the cause of the packet loss as most of these problems hinder the throughput of the TCP connections in wireless networks.
