For decades corporations and government organizations have performed drug testing in the hopes of keeping their staff drug-free, but very few small business owners consider the importance of testing their pool of employees. The majority of the American workplace consists of small businesses. The federal government estimates that 71 percent of illegal drug users are employed, and the majority work for small businesses. Small businesses may be particularly vulnerable to problems of drug abuse among their employees because abusers will seek work at smaller firms where the likelihood of drug testing is slim.
