A good indication that sustainability is here to stay is the fact that fewer than one-fourth of the survey respondents told one that their companies have pulled back on their commitment to sustainability during the downturn. In fact, respondents in some segments, such as the automotive industry and the media and entertainment industry, reported an increased company commitment to sustainability relative to the average. A number of corporate executives in the thought leader group also shared their belief that the downturn has accelerated a shift toward a greater corporate focus on sustainability - particularly toward sustainability-related actions that have an immediate impact on the bottom line.
