The Intel EP80579 Integrated Processor is an Intel architecture based System-on-a-Chip (SoC) processor that is specifically designed to meet the challenging requirements of embedded markets. This paper outlines the benefits of using this SoC in embedded products from the system designer's perspective. Topics include memory configuration flexibility, integration of I/O, low power configurations, industrial temperature range, wide ball pitch, usage of standard interfaces, multiple product SKU options in the same footprint and Intel architecture small form factors designs. This paper outlines several intentional processor design decisions made to reduce the total cost of board development and TTM, while at the same time allowing the Intel EP80579 Integrated Processor to be used across different market segments and platform cost/performance configurations within various market segments and applications.
