Today, the specific technologies driving growth are, of course, quite different than they were a century ago. But, the fundamental lesson - that these technologies may require new organizational forms - is as relevant today now as it was then. This is a paper about organizational innovation and experimentation in the business of science. Science has long been to varying degrees connected to innovation and thus to business enterprise.
