Many problem-solving processes have appeared over the last 50 years, and they have achieved a wide range of results. Some have had very little effect. Many have provided modest improvement - sometimes permanent, sometimes not. A very few have been spectacularly successful - reaching Zero Defects and doubling company profits. A recent study investigated many of these processes, searching for Best Practices. Some processes focus on Defect Reduction to improve quality and profits. Others focus on Cycle Time Reduction to improve capacity and cash flow. This study identified Best Practices in both Defect Reduction and Cycle Time Reduction, and it examined why the Best Practices have delivered superior results.
