This paper provides a gentle, parallel, and example-driven introduction to the Graph Template Language (GTL) and the Statistical Graphics (SG) procedures. With the GTL and the SG procedures, one can easily create professional-looking statistical graphics and modify the graphs that the SAS System automatically produces. Most graphs in this paper are produced in two ways: one graph is produced with the GTL, PROC TEMPLATE, and PROC SGRENDER; the other graph is produced more directly with PROC SGPLOT or one of the other SG procedures. Each example provides one with prototype programs for getting started with the GTL and the SG procedures.
