Executive Summary

In this paper, the authors use this data to tackle several questions that pertain to the selection of Italian politicians, their labor market, and their overall quality. In order to accomplish this goal they restrict attention to the post-1981 sample for which they observe their annual income and their attendance rates of parliamentary voting sessions. They then draw some general conclusions that contribute to the debate about the relative efficacy and desirability of alternative policies regarding the selection and the compensation of elected representatives
