The Music Industry in the 21st Century: Facing the Digital Challenge

The record industry, after more than a decade of comfortable growth, must now adapt to the sale increases that are more or less in the line with global economic growth. The evolution from the vinyl LP to the eight track, then to the music cassette (MC) and finally to the compact disc (CD) brought along with it a huge boost in revenues for the industry. The internet offers music creators and performers the opportunity to take a more prominent role in the industry value chain than they could in the past.
