With the introduction of Voice over IP (VoIP) into service provider networks comes the need to manage voice service quality. Voice, in next generation, converged networks, at face value, is another application delivered over an IP infrastructure. However, migrating voice services from TDM circuit-switched architectures to IP opens up a whole new series of challenges from a user experience management perspective. Service providers want to ensure that they deliver VoIP services at a Quality of Service (QoS) that meets or exceeds that of legacy circuit (TDM) networks, and at the same time take advantage of the lower costs and increased operational efficiencies that modern IP networks provide.
