The Past, Present, and Future of Clinical Data Standards
One of Albert Einstein?s many great quotes during his life included the following: "The distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion". This quote is a perfect microcosm for data standards in the clinical research industry. Over the last decade the clinical research industry has attempted to work toward a common data standard with the goal of accelerating drug development by improving the data collection, transformation, analysis, and submission process. The adoption of industry wide standards has been lethargic and led to a plethora of challenges.
