This paper has presented a new distributed channel assignment approach which considers the forwarding weight and distance between nodes to efficiently perform multicast communication in WMNs. The proposed approach first calculates the forwarding weight of each node and establishes its interfering node set. In the channel assignment, each node can use its forwarding weight to determine its order in the channel assignment. The large-weight nodes are preferred. Therefore, more receivers can receive more packets under a given time interval. In the channel selection, the distance between nodes is additionally considered for correctly measuring the interference of each channel candidate.
