"Future is History." If ever this was true for anything, it is for the online medium. One couldn't have predicted five years ago that Facebook would overtake Google on volume of traffic to their respective sites. Three years ago, one couldn't have predicted the exponential growth of Twitter. Well, the author really has no clue which of the current online properties will compete with Facebook or Twitter in the next few years. As marketeers and business owners, we need to be aware of the changing landscape and keep ourselves receptive to signals from the space; and adapt ourselves suitably to extract value in the windows of opportunities that present themselves.
