Cloud computing is a popular computing paradigm in which computation is moved away from a personal computer or an individual application server to a "Cloud" of computers in the network. Cloud computing holds the promise of revolutionizing the manner in which enterprises manage, distribute, and share content. By outsourcing web hosting and other IT capabilities to one or more cloud providers, enterprises may achieve significant cost savings. In this paper, the authors propose a data-centric view of cloud security - one that focuses on the needs and challenges posed by data-intensive applications deployed in cloud environments than span administrative and network domains.
