Transmission of Alpha-Numeric Data in a Tactical Environment to Provide Secure Communications
Traditionally, communications in a tactical environment have been achieved by using conventional voice transmissions. The man/machine interface is the familiar handset and perhaps it is not immediately obvious why one should consider replacing, or at least supplementing, this device with and inevitably larger and more complex message terminal. In this paper, a study on alpha numeric message terminals is done. This plays an important role in reducing air time coupled with improved communications integrity in comparison with voice. The practical part of this paper is a combination of an HF modem and a microprocessor based to minimize the system error, and the effect of the preprogrammed intelligent terminal.
