Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems with antenna subset selection for space-time codes have been a subject of intense research. In general, antenna subset selection can be classified as receive antenna selection and transmit antenna selection. Receive antenna selection reduces the number of required Radio-Frequency (RF) chains at the receiver, which leads to significant cost savings. The savings come at the cost of a usually small performance loss compared to the full-complexity system without antenna selection. The idea behind transmit antenna selection is that a subset of the transmit antennas are selected for transmission.
