This paper presents the major contributions and the possible future challenges in the emerging area of Networked Control Systems. Activities in this field can be categorized into control of networks, control over networks, and multi-agent systems. Control of networks is mainly concerned with providing a certain level of performance to a network data flow, while achieving efficient and fair utilization of network resources. Control over networks deals with the design of feedback strategies adapted to control systems in which control data is exchanged through unreliable communication links.
