Executive Summary

Despite high hopes the mobile payment has not realised its potential, covering only a fraction of the available market. The authors seek the reason for this unsatisfactory performance in the improper structure of trust relationship between major players. An analysis of those relationships leads to the proposal where the redefined role of the operator as an assessor of technology-based trust (with special focus on identity assessment) may open and widen the available market, thus enabling the mobile payment.
