Unified Communications (UC) is best defined as "communications integrated to optimize business processes." This definition focuses not on the UC technology but on how that UC technology can be applied to get things done in better ways than has been possible with older communications technologies. In fact, hundreds of case studies are now proving that UC is actually helping employees get their work done more efficiently and helping organizations cut costs, improve service, and speed up their results. This white paper includes some of those case study examples. However, the term "communications" in the definition above can be expanded to read as either "a selection of communications technologies, specific to the business need, integrated to optimize business processes" or "a bundle of communications technologies provided by the UC vendor which is then administered or configured to support the optimization of business processes."
