As the international community looks beyond the UN Copenhagen agreements on climate change, attention is focusing on implementing global emissions reductions on the ground. The requirement for significantly scaled-up finance and investment in the solutions to climate change is a central issue. This paper draws on the insights from mainstream financiers1 leading the exponential growth in renewable energy investment over the past five years. It draws out key issues for policy-makers seeking to foster conditions for even greater investment.
