Executive Summary

In this paper, the authors propose the Nash bargaining solution for the interference problem in cellular networks. The base-stations of neighboring cells negotiate with each other to determine the best number of channels that should be allocated to their edge users. While cells optimize the allocated resources on a local level, the bargaining process acts as a common framework that combines the optimization results of different cells. The bargaining can be viewed as a dynamic reuse scheme where the numbers of edge bands are changed according to the optimization process. The result was a noticeable gain when compared to a static reuse of frequencies. They also introduce a joint scheme that associates the Nash bargaining with load balancing handovers.
