Incentives created by the HITECH Act portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) are expected to result in a surge of new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) system implementations, alongside expanded adoption of existing clinical information systems. The growth in adoption of clinical information systems will result in a proliferation of point-of-care computing, dramatically increasing the number of client machines and applications that provider IT teams need to manage. In point-of-care computing, demands on availability, uptime, and performance are high, while the budgets to implement and manage devices are small.
