On Livermore Computing (LC) AIX clusters, POE (Parallel Operating Environment) is used to launch the tasks. The user submits a job command script to Moab, and that script contains one or more invocations of POE. Moab submits the job to SLURM (the Simple Linux Utility Resource Manager), and SLURM is responsible for running the user's job script. On machines with interactive partitions such as pdebug or viz, users are able to submit jobs directly to SLURM using either salloc (to run POE commands interactively) or sbatch (to run a specific job script). Users can also invoke POE directly as long as an interactive partition is specified. A SLURM job will be created and run when the resources become available (e.g., poe myApp -rmpool pdebug).
