Variable Power Broadcasting in Ad Hoc Networks

Network wide broadcast is a frequently used operation in ad hoc networks and consumes significant amount of energy. Reducing the overall power consumption is extremely important in increasing the longevity of ad hoc networks. As a result, developing energy efficient broadcast operations becomes an important issue in ad hoc networks. In this paper, the authors propose an adaptive power broadcast algorithm that uses localized information in ad hoc networks. Their algorithm uses a novel technique to improve energy efficiency in network wide broadcast. Their simulation based comparisons show the superiority of the authors' algorithm compared to other approaches.
