VMware Over NetApp NFS

Server virtualization with VMware addresses the most critical problems plaguing IT shops, including server performance and reliability, escalating resource consumption, slow provisioning, and complicated data protection. However, choosing the right storage solution and the most optimal configuration are key to getting maximum efficiency out of the virtualized environment. This paper discusses the potential benefits of designing the VMware virtual environment using the Network File System (NFS) running on NetApp storage. NetApp NFS offers benefits including ease of management, decreased cost, simplified data protection and provisioning, and performance and data store scalability. Best practices and important considerations for deploying VMware with NetApp NFS are discussed.
