Web Application Container Servers (WACS) provide a platform for hosting SAP Business Objects Edge Series web applications. It simplifies system administration by removing numerous manual workflows that were earlier required for configuring application servers and deploying web applications. It also provides a simplified, consistent administrative interface. The need for WACS arises when one wants to use .NET InfoView, and in case one does not want to use a Java application server to host CMC, WACS can be used to host the Central Management Console (CMC) instead. Web applications such as the CMC are automatically deployed to WACS. You cannot deploy Business Objects or external web applications to WACS, either manually or by using the deploy tool. The advantages of WACS are that they require minimum effort to install, configure and maintain; they are not required to be administered; and they help perform maintenance tasks for the Java application server. WACS also provides an administrative interface that is consistent with other SAP Business Objects servers. Numerous services are supported by WACS such as CMC services (viewing Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence documents, and Desktop Intelligence documents), Live Office, Voyager, Web Services SDK, QaaWS, and Business Process (BI) web services. This paper explains the working and installation of WACS. WACS is supported only in the Windows operating system.
