Web Content Management and SharePoint

A Web Content Management (WCM) system facilitates the publication of content to a website and removes the need for the user to possess technical knowledge of edit?ing HTML files. Such systems allow content creators to directly add or update content on a website without involving an IT department or external company. Share Point is known for its collaboration and document management capabilities. It also provides a publishing infrastructure to create public-facing websites. This platform provides simple abstraction from HTML. Share Point also provides something called Variations, a facility that allows multilingual versions of the same content to be kept in sync. It promises to be more accessible out of box than MOSS 2007, meaning less development work to create. For example, an AA rated website of the platform. It has an almost unlimited scope for what it can be developed to achieve, and in many cases it serves as an excellent platform on which to implement business processes. This is in addition to its out-of-the-box collaboration and document management capabilities. Share Point also provides a publishing infrastructure on which to create public facing websites. If it is already in place as a company's intranet, editors will have the added benefit of being familiar with making amendments to web pages, and may therefore require only minimal (or no) training to maintain a SharePoint website.
