Although a lot of attention has been typically paid to the performance of data hiding methods in terms of capacity, probability of decoding error, probability of detection, robustness, detectability (from a steganographic point of view), and more recently to their security, it is clear that the perceptual impact of the watermark embedding has been usually undervalued. In this paper, Weber's law is followed for designing a perceptually shaped side-informed data hiding scheme. The resulting method is a generalized version of a logarithmic quantization algorithm previously proposed by the authors. Closed formulas for analyzing the embedding power and decoding error probability of this new method are provided, and experimental results showing its good behavior against severe attacks are reported.
