Wireless LANS

Interest in wireless local area networks (wireless LANs or WLANs) has been growing exponentially since late 2001, the year that first saw the deployment of wireless LANs in a number of public libraries. By mid-2010 approximately 65 percent of public libraries had a wireless LAN in at least part of one of its buildings. The widespread acceptance of the technology appears to be attributable to the fact that standards are now in place that address many of the shortcomings of early wireless technology.
