The Daily Ignatian Reflections bring greater access to the spiritual teachings of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus. The order is more commonly known as the Jesuits. The mission of the Magis Institute is to improve spiritual life by incorporating spiritual values and prayer into daily life. The daily reflections are written by esteemed Jesuit priests and scholastics. The practice of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises can take one on a journey to spiritual maturity acknowledging that grace shapes us from moment to moment. Whereas a retreat allows an individual to pause and reflect on God's plan for the year to come, these Daily Ignatian Reflections will allow one to reflect on God's role and relevance in each day to come. The spiritual teaching of St. Ignatius of Loyola dates back to the 16th century. Born to nobility, he became a soldier and was wounded in battle. During his recuperation he read the only two books available to him: the Life of Christ and a collection on the lives of the saints. This led to his conversion from a worldly focus to a life committed to seeking Christ. The life lessons St. Ignatius taught to his followers became known as the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. He greatly influenced the Church and the world at a time of radical social upheaval: the Reformation and Counter-Reformation.Many Jesuits have greatly contributed to the culture: Saint Francis Xavier, a Spanish missionary to Asia who initiated a large conversion movement in India, Malacca, and Japan; Gerard Manley Hopkins, an English poet and Roman Catholic convert; and the twelve Jesuit priests formally recognized by Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority in Jerusalem, for risking their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust of World War II. In fact, here in the United States, the Jesuits are responsible for sponsoring more colleges, universities and secondary schools than any other single religious order. For those who seek the day-to-day relevance found in the wisdom of St. Ignatius, the Daily Ignatian Reflections will give you an opportunity to access the movements of the Lord shaping you daily.
