Topeka RoadRunners hockey team is a member of the North American Hockey League and is owned by Donald D. Stone, II along with his wife Barbara. The team of twenty five players between the ages of 16 - 21 is led by Head Coach Scott Langer who shares his lifetime of hockey experience with these young athletes. The players stay with host families, called "billet families"; for some, it is their first time away from home. The North American Hockey League has grown from a Michigan-based bus league 30 years ago to a league with 19 teams stretching from Michigan to Texas to Alaska. Players join the league in hopes of gaining hockey experience, exposure and the opportunity to move from the NAHL on to play Division I college hockey and further their educations.
