My early career was spent working long hard shifts on the cold grey waters off the N.E. coast of Scotland. For the last 15 years my work has taken me to some of the harshest environments on the planet. From the searing heat of the Algerian desert, Saudi and Qatar. To the bitter, biting cold winters of Northern Norway and Kazakhstan and also the sweltering tropics of Brazil, Equatorial Guinea and Singapore. The oil companies have housed me in accommodation that has varied from five star hotels to sharing, sweaty, cramped cabins on some really rough, rusty old oil rigs. They fed me from gourmet luxury menus and enticed my palette with some appalling meals that resembled rotten road kill crawling with roaches. All that is hopefully behind me.
