Danica Patrick talks racing tech at CES 2008

January 8, 2008, 4:28 PM PST | Length: 294

When companies come to CES, many draw a crowd with movie stars, professional athletes, and even a band or two. Indy car driver Danica Patrick was at GoDaddy.com's tent, where TechRepublic's Jason Hiner caught up with her. Danica explained the technology used by her Indy car racing team, her CES experience, and her personal choice of cell phone and computer operating system.

The appeal seems to be that she's female, not that she's truly competitive. She hasn't really competed in FIA, CART, or NASCAR yet. If her tech ability is in line with her driving ability; why would anyone bother listening to her. When it comes to sensible tech talk, many of the ladies on TR blow her away and she'd come up short trading paint in the corners or along the walls with most of them. What a waste of bandwidth and why wasn't this video properly buffered ??? Dawg ]:)

This is a great video to show in a class environment in middle or early high school to get students to think about where computers can be used -- not just in the classroom or office on a desk. Very cool TR for showing this.

I wonder if Tech Republic ever heard of buffering their video?

"Wow... wow awesome" I love that! Was that a response to her mention of brake pressure sensors or just how you felt about being that close to her? Also, Jason, did you have to ditch the microphone after that interview, or did the drool wash off? And, I'm sure that Erik Eckel wants to know if she remembers him (from the interview he did for TR a couple of years ago), and if she mentioned him by name...
